Favorite Prayers

I was challenged by Mike Patin(a friend and Catholic speaker from Louisiana), and Roy Petitfils (another Catholic speaker and writer from Louisiana, who I was introduced to by mutual friends) to share my top three favorite prayers.  Apparently, this began July 19th on another blog, but I was tagged via Roy who was tagged via  Scott Miller’s Catholic Youth Ministry Blog on August 8th. (And, Mike, well, who knows who tagged him.)

Since, two respected ministry colleagues have thrown down the gauntlet, I will do my best to rise to the challenge. 

1.  St. Igantius’ Suspice or Take, Lord, and Receive Prayer:  

2.  Holy Spirit, Come and Fill This Place:  Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, my parish in Baton Rouge, adopted St. Gabriel Parish in New Orleans.  The displaced parishioners from New Orleans shared this prayer and song with us.  After the gospel reading and before the homily, we would sing the following prayer.  It was an incredible moving experience as we prayed we parishioners who had lost their entire church in New Orleans.  This is a prayer I turn to all of the time, and it is top of my list to rock my kids too.

Holy Spirit, come and fill this place.
Bring us healing and your warm embrace.
Show your power, make your presence known.
Holy Spirit, come fill this place.

Breath of God, we need a touch from you.
Shine down on us with the light of truth.
Stir our hearts and set our spirits free.
Holy Spirit, come fill this place.

3.  Our Father– something so powerful about the words that Jesus taught us to pray.
